DESCRIPTION:Lured by Lyrebirds
Night event 5 hr, Saturday 10 Se
ptember 18:00 - 23:00 | Day event 6 hr, Sunday 11 September 09:30 - 15:30
Come and explore the pict
uresque area around Mt Clear and Brayshaws hut for these events. The southe
rn end of Namadgi National Park is beautiful with open valleys, historic hu
ts and other ruins and rocky outcrops. You'll very likely hear one of the m
any lyrebirds out on the course!
The same course will be used
for both events so you can practice your night navigation before blitzing
the course the following day.
Final Instructions
Thank you for
entering the Lured by Lyrebrids Night and/or Day Event on 10?11 Septe
mber 2022. Team leaders, make sure that everyone on your team reads this wh
ole document carefully.
Important
Allow 1.5 hours as a comfort
able travel time from north Canberra to the Hash House. Watch for animals o
n the Boboyan road when driving – especially at evening/night and early mor
ning. Cyclists also use the road regularly. Please consider carpooling as p
arking is limited.
COVID-19 Measures
- If you are a
waiting the result of a COVID-19 test; or if you are feeling unwell, or hav
e flu-like symptoms, please stay home.
- Touch points at the toilets w
ill be cleaned regularly.
- Please maintain a safe 1.5m distance from
other teams - including while doing your route planning, at the briefings,
at the start and finish, and when approaching controls.
Indemnity
Form
Please bring to the event a printed and completed indemn
ity form located here. Check the team list for your relevant event on
the home page to ensure that all details for your team including categ
ory are correct. If incorrect, please contact the Event Contact prior
to the event.
- Ensure that all team members sign a separate inde
mnity form. Parents or guardians must sign for people under 18. Also provid
e registration number(s) of your car(s) at the Hash House. Be sure to put y
our team number on the form.
- Present your completed indemnity form a
t the registration desk.
- Medical advice: All competitors should cons
ider advising their partner of any pre?existing medical conditions (such as
diabetes, asthma, epilepsy, susceptibility to anaphylaxis) that may requir
e first-aid action on course. This should include a description of the symp
toms, the required first-aid action, and the location in their bag of any m
edication (such as sugar, ventolin, epi-pen, anti-histamines).How to Get Th
ere
The Hash House is located on the Boboyan road at the NSW/ACT b
oundary, approximately 4 km south of the Mt Clear campground in Namadgi Nat
ional Park.
Allow 1.5 hours as a comfortable travel tim
e from North Canberra to the Hash House. Watch for animals on the Boboyan r
oad when driving – especially at evening/night and early morning. Cyclists
also use the road regularly.
From Canberra, follow directions
to Tharwa. Head south on the Boboyan road. While this road is sealed for t
he first ~33 km (to just past Rendezvous Creek), there are potholes in plac
es. Be particularly aware of a large set of potholes across the entire road
on the downhill just after you have climbed Fitz’s Hill.
The
dirt portion of the road (approximately another 20 km) is in relatively go
od condition with some potholes and corrugations.
Drive over
the cattle-grid and park in the area west of the road or as directed. Parki
ng is extremely limited so carpooling is highly recommended.
The HH location on google maps is here.
Registration, Map Availa
bility, Start Times
The Night (5hr) Event will commence by wa
y of a mass start at 6:00pm sharp on Saturday 10 September,
with a novice briefing at 5:50pm and a final briefing at 5:55pm. Regis
tration will open at 4:00pm.
The Day (6hr) Event will c
ommence by way of a mass start at 9:30am sharp on Sunday 11
September, with a novice briefing at 9:20am and a final briefing at 9:
25am. Registration will open at 7:30am.
To register, one pers
on only per team to register and collect maps. That person will need to:
- Bring first aid kit (per team), so that it can be checked; see be
low for what it must contain
- Show you have a space blanket for each
person (will be available for purchase if required)
- Bring one comple
ted indemnity form per team member
Electronic scoring - As th
is event is using the Navlight system of scoring, each team member will be
issued with a wristband and tag upon registration.
You will a
lso be given pre-marked maps, control descriptions, course setter's notes a
nd a small copy of the map to be used as a flight plan. We recommend that y
ou arrive at least an hour prior to the start of the event to allow enough
time for final preparations and route planning. Each team must mark their i
ntended route on the flight plan and hand it in before starting.
Map and Course Details
There will be one A3 map (297x420mm), 1:25,
000 with 10 m contour interval. Magnetic north lines are marked on the map.
Out of bounds areas are marked in red. The control descriptions have been
printed on the back. The map is printed on Teslin paper which is very tough
and generally does not need to be covered in contact.
The fo
rest is generally fairly open, providing good visibility. Some sections hav
e fallen trees/branches and there are also occasional dense patches of Cass
inia (non-prickly but quite thick scrub). Gaitors and long-pants are recomm
ended. The course setters have indicated where you are most likely to find
this in their notes. The creek systems will have an abundance of water so d
o expect to get wet feet.
Water
Please bring enough water for
Hash House use and for at least 3 hours on course. There is only
one water drop on the course. There is a pump that screws into the top of t
he water container to use. There is (a lot of!) water in the larger creeks
on the course, but it should be sterilised if drunk. Sterilisation ta
blets will be available at the Hash House if needed, but consider bringing
your own method of sterilisation if you have it.
Camping
Camping is available on Saturday night at either the Hash House (on
the private land on the NSW side of the border) or a few minutes up the roa
d at the Mt Clear Campground. Camping fees are included in your entry fee.
We encourage all night participants to camp so that you are not driving hom
e in the dark with the abundant wildlife in Namadgi National Park. Of cours
e, for those day rogainers who don't like a super-early start, come and cam
p Saturday night too!
If you are camping at the Mt Clear Camp
ground, please be economical with parking as it is extremely limited. There
is overflow parking 50m further on from the campground at the gate to the
Naas Valley Firetrail.
Other Information
Catering is being pro
vided by Hartley Lifecare. In addition to the end-of-event feeds (part of y
our entry fee) they are offering a hot breakfast for pre-orders -
a bargain at just $5 per person. Porridge, egg and bacon rolls are o
n the menu. Pre-orders must be made with your entry.
